NAC Synthesis: Confirmed seizures of criminal assets worth over 48 million lei and frozen illicit assets worth about 13 million lei

The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) has reported several activities last week in the area of combating and preventing corruption. Thus, a systemic corruption scheme is being investigated at the Environmental Protection Inspectorate (IPM), within which passive corruption with extortion of goods and financial means from economic agents in exchange for providing support in completing technical books and documentation in the field of environmental protection in order to speed up the process of issuing environmental permits is being investigated. An IPM employee and a representative of an economic agent are being investigated in this case. In another case, a patrol inspector from the north of the country was searched in a case of influence peddling. He is suspected of having demanded illicit financial means from a person to help him perfect his category "C" driving license. We note that at the moment, 6 individuals, targeted in the Centre’s files, are arrested and detained in penitentiary institutions in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti. During the reporting period, the criminal investigation officers of the NAC opened 20 new cases and proposed 14 cases for resolution.
Also, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) of the NAC informs about the confirmation by court decisions of the seizures applied to illicit assets worth over 48 million lei. These include means of transport, land for construction and cash. At the same time, the CARA issued a freezing order on a car, a real estate asset and 10 bank accounts worth about 13 million lei.
In the field of corruption prevention, the Legislation Directorate finalized and submitted to the authors 24 expert reports and 7 opinions on draft normative acts, last week. During the mentioned period, 9 anti-corruption trainings were organized for over 650 people within several information campaigns. The NAC notifies the completion of 6 operational analyses, the issuance of 193 integrity records, the reception of 41 calls to the National Anti-corruption Hotline and the registration of 1616 materials in the Centre’s Chancellery.
