The National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) together with the prosecutors of the municipality of Chisinau have announced the detention for 72 hours of two residents of the municipality of Orhei in a case of influence peddling. They are suspected of demanding illicit financial means in exchange for a driver's license.
According to the investigations carried out, a former employee of a driving school in the city of Orhei, acting in coordination with another resident of the Orhei district, allegedly demanded and received 2000 euros from a man, claiming that he would have influence over the members of the Examination Commission within the Public Services Agency of Orhei municipality and that it can determine them to issue a favourable decision regarding the candidate to pass the driving exam for the practical test for category "B", with the completion and issuance of the driving license.
Today, following the searches carried out at the suspects' homes, both persons were detained. Currently, the case is being investigated by the NAC under the procedural leadership of the Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office.
It should be noted that one of the suspects was previously detained by anti-corruption officers for a similar offense, being sentenced to 3 years in prison by the court in the first instance.
